RB Leipzig have included a rather interesting clause in the agreement for Yan Diomande’s transfer to Real Madrid, continuing a practice the German club has also used in some of its biggest sales.
Diomande has joined Real Madrid for a fixed fee of €125 million, while the total value of the deal could reach €140 million with bonuses included. This is the most expensive transfer in Leipzig’s history.
However, there is another unusual detail hidden within the agreement. According to BILD, Real Madrid have committed to playing a friendly match against Leipzig at some point in the future.
The date of the match has not yet been determined, but it has been included as part of the transfer agreement. This means that Diomande’s departure could bring Real Madrid back to the Red Bull Arena, this time for a friendly encounter.
The clause may seem unusual, but it is nothing new for Leipzig. The German club has negotiated similar arrangements in several major transfers in the past.
In some cases, the friendly matches have actually taken place, while in others, Leipzig have received financial compensation if the match was not organized. In Diomande’s case, Leipzig appear to have protected themselves under both scenarios.
If Real Madrid and Leipzig agree on a date, the Spanish giants will travel to the Red Bull Arena for a friendly.
This would give Leipzig the opportunity to organize a major event featuring one of the most famous clubs in the world while generating revenue from ticket sales, hospitality services, and commercial activities.
If the two clubs fail to find a suitable date, then, according to BILD, Leipzig will receive a guaranteed payment of around €1.3 million.
However, this amount will not be added on top of the fixed €125 million transfer fee. According to the report, the €1.3 million is part of the bonus structure that could take the total value of the transfer up to €140 million.
The agreement also does not include a sell-on percentage, meaning Leipzig’s future financial benefit from Diomande appears to be limited to the bonuses agreed as part of the deal.
In other words, Leipzig may have lost one of their biggest young talents, but the German club has once again demonstrated its ability to negotiate smart and financially advantageous transfer agreements.
