Manchester United manager Michael Carrick has urged fans to be patient ahead of the clash with Aston Villa, stressing that the team needs time to rediscover its desired form.
The dramatic victory over Roma has brought optimism to the Red Devils’ camp, but Carrick has warned that a single win does not mean the team’s problems have been solved.
Manchester United continue to struggle in the league, having failed to win any of their last seven Premier League matches. Furthermore, the English side has an even goal difference, with eight goals scored and eight conceded.
Speaking ahead of the clash with Aston Villa, Carrick called for improvements to be assessed realistically and for the team to be given the time it needs.
“We have to build gradually, remain realistic and look at things in the right perspective. Everything cannot change overnight,” Carrick stated.
He also reflected on the performance against Roma, admitting that there are still areas in which the team needs to improve.
“When you look back at the game against Roma, the first half wasn’t that bad. There were moments when we were left exposed, and those are things we need to correct. The first half against Chelsea was very good. Without a doubt, we are showing signs of improvement, and we need to keep moving in that direction,” he said.
Carrick added that the team must not get carried away by the excitement of their latest victory, but instead use it as a starting point for better results.
“It was a positive reaction, but we must not get carried away with the excitement. I know what my players are capable of; we simply haven’t shown it enough recently. The players have been training very well,” the English manager said.
Manchester United have historically dominated their Premier League encounters with Aston Villa, recording 42 wins and suffering just six defeats in their meetings.
Carrick hopes his team can take advantage of this fixture to secure three much-needed points and begin a positive run of results in the league.
