French superstar Kylian Mbappé has commented on his ongoing rivalry with Argentine legend Lionel Messi, just one day after the latter set another FIFA World Cup record.
Messi starred in Argentina’s victory over Austria, scoring twice to become the all-time leading goalscorer in FIFA World Cup history with 18 goals.
Mbappé now sits just behind him with 16 World Cup goals, making the rivalry between the two global football stars even more intriguing as they continue their pursuit of historic records.
“No, I don’t watch what Leo does. He has always scored, he scores, and he will always score. I’ve said that before. If I want to keep up with what he does, then I have to do even more,” Mbappé said.
When asked about Messi, the French forward spoke with great respect for the Argentine’s achievements, emphasizing that he does not focus on making direct comparisons between them.
