Real Madrid star Vinicius Jr could face a suspension of up to four matches following his red card in last night’s game.
The Brazilian was sent off after allegedly pulling opponent Nathan Saliba’s hair during an attacking move in which he scored. Following a VAR review, the goal was disallowed and Vinicius was shown a red card, prompting strong protests from the Brazilian against the referee’s decision.
Under Article 130 of the Spanish Football Disciplinary Code, violent conduct during a match that does not result in harmful consequences or injury can be punished with a suspension of between one and three matches, or a ban of up to one month.
However, when an incident occurs away from the action, at a moment when a player has no opportunity to play the ball or when play has been stopped, the regulations provide for a suspension of between two and three matches.
The final disciplinary ruling will determine the length of Vinicius’ suspension and whether he will be available for Real Madrid’s upcoming fixtures.
One of Real Madrid’s biggest concerns is the possibility of the Brazilian missing the highly anticipated clash against Barcelona in El Clasico, should the suspension extend to that match.
