Guardiola Responds to Allegations Against Manchester City: “We Will Get Through This Together”

Pep Guardiola responded on Wednesday to the ongoing case involving Manchester City and allegations of financial rule breaches in the Premier League.

The renowned manager, who has been in charge of Manchester City for ten seasons, expressed his support for the club, its management, players and supporters.

“I want every Manchester City fan to know that I am here, more than ever. I am, I always have been, and I always will be by the side of my club, my owner, my chairman, Ferran, the players, the staff, Enzo and all of you, our unique fans. I want to be clear: we will get through this together. I love you all,” Guardiola wrote.

The case concerns the period between 2009 and 2018. The Premier League has accused Manchester City of failing to provide complete financial information, including details regarding payments to managers and players, as well as alleged breaches of the Premier League’s and UEFA’s financial regulations.

Manchester City has denied all the allegations.

The case was opened following an investigation by the German newspaper Der Spiegel. In February 2020, UEFA fined Manchester City €30 million and imposed a two-year ban on the club from participating in European competitions.

However, following an appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), the ban was overturned after several of the allegations were deemed time-barred. Manchester City was nevertheless ordered to pay a €10 million fine for failing to cooperate with UEFA.

The period under investigation covers the seasons from 2009/10 to 2017/18. Guardiola took charge of Manchester City in the 2016/17 season.

During the period in question, Manchester City won three Premier League titles, four League Cups, two FA Cups and one Community Shield.
