Lamine Yamal continues to make history. The Barcelona wonderkid once again dazzled for Spain, breaking several records in their emphatic 4-1 victory over Croatia and further underlining his remarkable impact at international level.
Yamal scored twice and provided an assist as Spain comfortably defeated Croatia on Tuesday night at the Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán Stadium, in their second Group 3 match of League A in the UEFA Nations League.
According to statistics from Stats du Foot, this was the first time in his career that Yamal had both scored and provided an assist in the same match for the Spanish national team.
Meanwhile, according to figures published by Mister Chip, the 19-year-old became the youngest player in Spain’s history to score at least two goals and register an assist in a single international match. He achieved the feat at the age of 19 years and 78 days.
Raúl now ranks behind him, having previously achieved the same feat at the age of 21 years and 273 days.
According to Stats du Foot, Yamal also became the youngest European player to reach 10 goals for his senior national team since Danish striker Harald Nielsen, who reached that milestone on August 26, 1960, at the age of 18 years and 10 months.
But the Barcelona star’s impressive statistics do not end there. The same French outlet notes that Yamal has been directly involved in 18 goals across his last eight appearances for club and country, scoring 11 goals and providing seven assists.
Yamal also currently tops the Nations League charts for direct goal contributions, having been involved in four goals so far.
His performance against Croatia came on another memorable night for Spain, who made a flying start to the match. Yamal opened the scoring in just the second minute before setting up Marc Pubill, who restored Spain’s lead after Dion Beljo had equalised.
In the second half, Yamal scored his second goal of the night, while Nico Williams completed the 4-1 victory.
With this win, Spain extended their unbeaten run to 40 consecutive matches, further cementing their impressive form on the international stage.
