Barcelona star Lamine Yamal has spoken about the way he experiences football, saying that his main motivation is his love for the game rather than money.
In an interview with The Guardian, the 18-year-old emphasized that, for him, football is above all about entertainment and enjoyment.
“I don’t play football for money, I play because I love it,” Yamal said.
The Spanish talent also said that he is not obsessed with goals and assists, arguing that players who constantly focus on statistics fail to fully enjoy the game.
“Players who are obsessed with goals or assists don’t enjoy themselves,” he said.
Yamal explained that dribbling, one-touch or two-touch passing, and helping a teammate score are among the moments that bring him the most joy on the pitch.
“I play to have fun, to dribble, to play with one touch, two touches, to help a teammate who hasn’t scored to score. For happiness,” the Barcelona star said.
At just 18 years old, Yamal is already one of the key figures at Barcelona and in Spanish football.
