Real Madrid Have Two Roles in Mind for Club Icon Luka Modrić After His Retirement

Real Madrid already have two possible paths in mind for Luka Modrić once the club legend eventually brings his playing career to an end, according to Defensa Central.

Modrić continues to perform well for AC Milan, but the question of what comes next for him has already begun to emerge.

The Croatian midfielder recently said in an interview with AS that he would like to return to Madrid one day, but only if he can make a significant contribution rather than simply returning because of his status as a club icon.

Now, journalist Tomás Roncero, as reported by Defensa Central, believes that Modrić’s return to Madrid is inevitable.

More importantly, he believes Modrić has the footballing knowledge required to take on a serious role at the club rather than simply serving as a ceremonial figure.

“I realized that he will definitely return to Madrid, and I am convinced that he does not want to return to Madrid as an ambassador, but wants to feel important,” Roncero explained.

In particular, the journalist identified two positions that could suit Modrić very well: joining the coaching staff of a manager or moving into sporting management.

Modrić’s reputation at Real Madrid was built primarily through his performances on the pitch, but his interests extend far beyond his career as a footballer.

He continues to follow leagues and players around the world and has maintained a strong interest in football as a whole.

This could make him valuable in a footballing role at Valdebebas once he brings his playing career to an end.

“I can see him joining the coaching staff of a manager or moving into sporting management because he is a student of the game and of the leagues. He watches all the matches and knows the players,” Roncero added.

Modrić’s relationship with Real Madrid is about much more than simply being a former player.

He spent more than a decade at the club and became one of the most influential midfielders of its modern era.

Therefore, a future return would carry significant emotional importance, but it appears that Modrić wants his next chapter to be based on his footballing expertise.

That is precisely why sporting management and a role on the coaching staff have emerged as two possible paths for him in the future.
