Chelsea Sign World Cup-Winning Goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez

Chelsea have officially announced the signing of Argentine goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez from Aston Villa.

The London club have paid around £8 million for the 33-year-old goalkeeper, who has signed a three-year contract with Chelsea.

Martinez expressed his happiness at beginning a new chapter at Stamford Bridge.

“I am very happy to be part of this club. For me and my family, coming to Chelsea was an easy decision. I cannot wait to get started,” the Argentine goalkeeper said.

He also emphasized his desire to win trophies with his new club.

“I want to be successful here. I am someone who wants to win in everything I do, and I want to bring that mentality to Chelsea. It is a club that wins trophies, and I think this is a good fit,” Martinez said.

Chelsea moved quickly in the transfer market to secure the services of the Argentine goalkeeper after Robert Sanchez made several mistakes in the opening match of the season against Fulham.

Martinez leaves Aston Villa after six successful years. He joined the club from Arsenal in September 2020 and made a total of 256 appearances.

During his time at Aston Villa, Martinez became one of the key figures in the team. Last season, he also started in the Europa League final, where Aston Villa defeated Freiburg to win their first major trophy in 30 years.

The Argentine goalkeeper also has an impressive international career with Argentina. He is a World Cup winner and a two-time Copa América champion, while he has made 67 appearances for his national team.
