Carlo Ancelotti has confirmed that he was contacted by the Italian Football Federation (FIGC) regarding the possibility of becoming Italy’s national team coach. However, he stressed that he never considered leaving Brazil, as he feels fully committed to the project he has begun with the Seleção.
The news was first revealed by former Italy national teams director Paolo Maldini, who admitted a few days ago that Ancelotti was among the first names approached for the Azzurri’s managerial position, alongside Pep Guardiola.
“Guardiola? We cannot reveal details about what is happening. You have identified one of our targets, but we also spoke with Carlo Ancelotti. We felt it was right to begin by contacting the best coaches in the world, but then you have to consider each one’s availability,” Maldini said, as reported by Gazeta Express.
Despite the interest, the Italian coach made it clear to FIGC officials that he had no intention of leaving his role as Brazil’s head coach.
According to Brazilian media, Ancelotti immediately informed the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) about Italy’s approach and reiterated his commitment to honoring his contract.
“I have made a commitment to Brazil, and I want to honor it. I never considered leaving,” said “Don Carlo.”
Ancelotti extended his contract with Brazil shortly before the start of the 2026 FIFA World Cup and is now tied to the five-time world champions until 2030.
Within the CBF, Italy’s interest has been viewed as recognition of Ancelotti’s outstanding work, and no official negotiations have taken place between the two football federations.
