Official: Gvardiol Extends Manchester City Contract

Josko Gvardiol will continue his journey with Manchester City after the English champions officially announced that the Croatian defender has signed a contract extension until the summer of 2031.

The 24-year-old, who joined City from RB Leipzig in 2023 for around €90 million, still had two years remaining on his previous deal. However, the club decided to secure his long-term future by handing him a new five-year contract.

After signing the extension, Gvardiol expressed his delight at continuing his career at the Etihad Stadium.

“As soon as I learned that Manchester City wanted to renew my contract, I immediately knew it was exactly what I wanted. It’s the best club in the world to play for,” the Croatian said.

He also praised the quality of the squad and shared his optimism about the club’s future ambitions.

“The players here are outstanding. We have a young team with tremendous quality and potential. I believe we will achieve great success in the years ahead.”

Since arriving in Manchester, Gvardiol has won five major trophies, including the Premier League and the FA Cup, establishing himself as one of the key pillars of City’s defense.

Manchester City’s Sporting Director, Hugo Viana, also welcomed the contract extension.

“Josko is a player in whom this club has complete confidence. Despite his young age, he is already one of the best defenders in the world. Manchester City is committed to keeping its finest talents, and we are delighted that he has signed a new contract,” Viana said.
